More Empty Utopian Architecture, Montreal, 2009

To be brutally honest, there hasn’t been much color in my life recently. Visually, my attention has been focused on making black and white images for the past couple of weeks and have just not been “thinking in color”. Philosophically, I find myself being drawn into the idea of “gray” – a middle tone that seems appropriate for a world that is neither black and white, right or wrong…

I am writing this as I gaze out of my office window at how amazingly saturated and warm the natural light looks. I am exceptionally eager to get out with a digital camera and see if I can accurately capture the extreme shift in light that has occurred in Minneapolis. Apparently, the wildfires burning out of control in California are creating so much smoke that it is effecting the color temperature of sunlight throughout parts of the country.

It is a small, stinky, dirty world.

In other news, I am finding these vintage camera advertisements from FLICKR user “rebollo_fr” incredibly engaging. Here are just a few that keep drawing me back for a second look.
